Hazardous Materials
If there are hazards in your workplace or if you are transporting goods that are dangerous there are legal requirements to identify them with specific signs.
The CLP (Classification, Labelling, Packaging) Regulation is an EU regulation which aligns the EU system of classification, labelling and packaging of ...chemical substances to the Globally Harmonised System (GHS). This regulation requires the use of pictograms when labelling substances with specific properties such toxicity or flammability. The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) is an internationally recognised system created by the United Nations. The unified system provides simplified regulations that international manufacturers of chemical products can implement instead of trying to comply with unique standards previously enforced by individual countries.
The transport of dangerous goods is governed by the ADR (European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road). It categorises dangerous goods into nine classes including explosives, gases and oxidizing substances. Vehicles are required by law to display the correct ADR warning signs when carrying dangerous goods.
